"Reading is a conversation. All books talk. But good books listen as well." -Mark Haddon

I’m an avid reader and I was raised by a woman that loves to read as well. The library was a weekly event and me and my sisters loved it. We wanted to go to the library more than any other activity we were allowed to do. So much so, that we are known by name and they still ask my mom about us when she goes in periodically. I hear constantly that people HATE to read. I do understand that reading can be boring. But it’s only boring if your reading the WRONG thing. If you knew the benefits, I think you would do better job at implementing it into your everyday life. Reading is not just for children, but it is a lifestyle that is best enjoyed as a family. Your influence will allow for them to enjoy the world of books and look to books as entertainment and not just a chore in school.

One of the best ways to start reading is to engage with a Genre that you really enjoy. If your a gamer, love anime, work on cars, are a stay at home mom or a student, the options are endless. Try to stray away form E-Books as much as possible because we already spend a large amount of time in front of a screen and there are major adverse effects. Just to give you a quick overview, there is extensive research that has found too much screen time slows down brain function, social skills suffer, literary skills deteriorate, and you’ll have less imagination. If that’s not enough for you to make some changes then let me also tell you that your sleep is interrupted and the average person over eats as a result of too much screen time. This is not just an issue for adults, but it’s worse for the growing minds of our children.

I get complimented all the time on my vocabulary and my literary skills. I’m told I’m well spoken often.

Guess what guys !!!!!

It’s because I read. I have a vast amount of knowledge because I read about everything. I’m never afraid to go research a topic I’m unfamiliar with or go read a book and learn a new hobby. Reading is fundamental for improved brain function, just as working out is fundamental for improved body function. Reading works out your mind.

We are in a climate of ill-informed adults. Adults that rely on the internet, blogs and quick headlines to keep them up to date on world issues. There are so many feelings associated with things that would be better understood if everyone would take a few minutes to gain knowledge on basic things that effect them daily. I encourage you to evaluate your goals and elevate your expectations of yourself.
